The United States Internet portal Colorado Springs Gazette published the article “Mom works to help Carson soldiers honor battle bonds”, by Lance Benzel, on 10 January 2010.
The publication describes the battle of October 2009 in Afghanistan, where two soldiers of the Latvian National Armed Forces – Jānis Laķis and Mārtiņš Dāboliņš – took their part in a deadly struggle alongside US troops . One of the soldiers who fought in the battle, US soldier sergeant Eric J. Harder, wrote in a letter to his mother that he owed his life to soldier Laķis. In gratitude for saving her son’s life and the invaluable support of the Latvian soldiers to the American soldiers in the daylong battle, Eric J. Harder’s mother Mary Henry is willing to raise money for Laķis and Dāboliņš to travel with their families to the US at the beginning of summer for a reunion with their American battle comrades, who will have by then returned from their service in Afghanistan.
