From 5th to 8th of June, Raimonds Bergmanis, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, goes to Washington, USA, with a working visit to meet with members of US Senate and think tank experts.
Meeting will focus on Latvia’s efforts to strengthen defence capabilities, regional security challenges, Latvia-US bilateral defence cooperation and future US presence in Europe.
During visit to the United States of America, Defence Minister will also attend a conference on defence and deterrence policies of North-European countries organised by the Atlantic Council, a US think tank, and Lithuanian Defence Ministry. Minister will take part in a panel discussing the input of Baltic countries in strengthening the Alliance’s defence capabilities.
Visit of the Latvian Defence Minister to the United States of America will coincide with working visit of Raimundas Karoblis, Lithuanian Defence Minister, and and Margus Tsahkna, the Estonian Defence Minister, to the United States.
Bilateral defence cooperation with the United States of America is one of Latvia’s defence policy priorities. USA’s commitment to strengthening of NATO’s collective defence and stability of the Baltic countries and Poland is implemented through its permanent presence in the region since 2014.
