Information for wind farm developers

On 12 November 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Ministry of Defence's Information Report "On the Acquisition of Additional Radars for the Development of Wind Farms", which provides solutions to strengthen national defence and expands the National Armed Forces' air surveillance capabilities across Latvia. The report also foresees the allocation of more land for the development of wind farms in Latvia over the next three years.

The information report includes a preliminary map showing the potential changes from 1 January 2028, after the relocation of existing radars and the purchase and deployment of additional radars. The Ministry of Defence and the National Armed Forces, having assessed the radar positions and determined their precise protection zones, are working on the preparation of related legislation and a wind farm development map at a high level of detail, ensuring that the identified solution for the accessibility of the wider Latvian land area for wind farm development is implemented.
