From May 5 to May 15, two military exercises will take place in Latvia: “Crystal Arrow 2026,” led by the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, and “Spring Warrior,” organized by the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia.

During “Crystal Arrow 2026,” the focus will be on improving brigade-level planning and execution of operations. Soldiers will train full-scale defensive operations in conventional warfare under realistic field conditions. Tasks will be carried out in environments that closely resemble real-life scenarios. Key priorities include strengthening combat capabilities, improving coordination between units, and integrating unmanned aerial systems. Units will also practice reconnaissance, coordination of combat assets, and casualty evacuation in cooperation with the Emergency Medical Service.

The “Spring Warrior” exercise is organized by the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia to strengthen unit cohesion in national defense operations. The exercise will improve force deployment, logistics, and command and control while operating across different regions of Latvia. It will also enhance cooperation between NATO allied forces, the National Armed Forces, the National Guard, and local municipalities, contributing to Latvia’s overall security and defense.

Approximately 2,500 soldiers and 500 pieces of equipment will take part in “Crystal Arrow 2026.” Participants will include units from the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia, the National Guard’s 1st Riga Brigade, 2nd Vidzeme Brigade, and 3rd Latgale Brigade, as well as the Air Force, Military Police, and Logistics Command. The “Spring Warrior” exercise will involve more than 2,200 soldiers and around 300 pieces of equipment.

Lieutenant Colonel Andris Rozītis, Acting Commander of the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, states: “In today’s security environment, with war taking place nearby, we must remain alert, united, and ready to act. National defense requires constant development, discipline, and adaptability. As shown by Ukraine’s experience, success depends not only on courage, but also on effective cooperation, rapid decision-making, and strong combat capabilities. Through the ‘Crystal Arrow 2026’ exercise, we will improve our skills and strengthen interoperability between units to ensure we are ready to respond effectively in any situation.”

Exercise activities will take place at the Ādaži and Sēlija military training areas, as well as in areas managed by “Latvia’s State Forests” and selected civilian territories across the country. These include Aizkraukle, Jēkabpils, and Sigulda municipalities, as well as areas near Gulbene, Rēzekne, Lūznava, Jaunpiebalga, Alūksne, Madona, Preiļi, Varakļāni, Līvāni, and Daugavpils. Activities will also occur around Skrīveri, Zalve, Staburags, Odziena, Sēlpils, Sece, Sunākste, Daudzese, Jaunjelgava, Viesīte, and Nereta.

For your awareness!

During the exercises, there will be increased movement of military vehicles and personnel across Latvia, including on public roads. Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) will also be used.

All activities are carried out in coordination with local municipalities and landowners. After the exercises, all used areas will be cleaned and restored.

Residents are asked to be understanding of temporary traffic restrictions and the increased presence of military equipment. All military movements will comply with road traffic regulations.

Thank you for your support in strengthening Latvia’s defense!
