On Saturday, June 6, at Sweden’s National Day, Swedish Air Force “JAS 39 Gripen” fighter jets will perform a flyover over Latvia. At approximately 13.45, they can be observed over Riga Castle and the Freedom Monument.

Two Swedish Air Force fighter jets will participate in the flyover. This initiative demonstrates allied unity and close cooperation, showcasing the ability to conduct coordinated air operations and strengthen regional security.

During the flyover, the aircrafts will first pass over Valmiera and then fly over the “Lielvārde” military air base, which serves as a major allied aviation support hub in the Baltic region. The fighter jets will then head over the “Ādaži” military base and its camp “Valdemārs”, where an official award ceremony for the soldiers of the Swedish contingent and a rotation closing ceremony will take place. At the conclusion of the flyover, the fighter jets will cross central Riga, flying over Riga Castle and the Freedom Monument, providing residents and visitors with an opportunity to witness the allied air force greeting.

The Ministry of Defence informs that the timing of the flyover is subject to change depending on weather conditions or operational requirements.

As previously reported, Swedish soldiers have been serving as part of the NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia since January 2025. Since joining NATO on March 7, 2024, this marks the first time Sweden has deployed its troops to another Alliance member state.
