Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal to Receive Latvia-Produced “Patria” 6x6 Armoured Personnel Carriers
On Thursday, 6 November, at the Ādaži military base, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, will receive the final batch of Latvia-produced “Patria” 6x6 armoured personnel carriers donated to Ukraine.
“Since the very first day of Russia’s invasion, Latvia has supported Ukraine and the efforts of its defenders to protect their country. The donation of armoured vehicles manufactured in Latvia is a significant contribution to Ukraine’s defenders and an opportunity to test the endurance and performance of these Latvian-made vehicles in real combat conditions,”
emphasized Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds.
At the Ādaži military base, 21 “Patria” 6x6 armoured personnel carriers intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be handed over. Each vehicle is equipped with a 12.7 mm NATO-calibre support machine gun and ammunition.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces will also receive spare parts, special repair tools and equipment, a container-type mobile repair workshop, and full maintenance documentation.
In addition, combat damage repair kits will be supplied — these are designed to enable Ukrainian soldiers to repair vehicles directly near the front line, where immediate evacuation or rear-area repairs are not possible.
It has already been announced that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the transfer of 42 “Patria” 6x6 armoured personnel carriers and other types of military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in support of Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
Latvia continues to provide military assistance to Ukraine’s armed forces. In 2025, Latvia’s military support to Ukraine will reach 0.3% of GDP by the end of the year.
In addition to military aid, Latvia is also implementing an extensive training programme for Ukrainian soldiers.
