Infantry fighting vehicles

Project focuses on procurement and introduction of infantry fighting vehicles to enhance the NAF mobility and fire power. Infantry fighting vehicles is one of the priorities of NATO capability development goals. Introduction of these vehicles by Latvia will contribute to achievement of NATO capability goals. Project is implemented between 2025 and 2028.

NAF will use the project to acquire and implement ASCOD type infantry fighting vehicles manufactured by the Spanish company GDELS-Santa Bárbara Sistemas. The carriers are equipped with Grade 4 armour according to NATO standards. It also has autocannon, anti-tank weapons, machine gun and other advanced technologies enabling soldiers to have better visibility of the battlefield. Combat carriers are manned by three soldiers and can carry up to six other troops that can be rapidly deployed while wearing full tactical gear.

Fighting vehicles will be delivered in batches between the second half of 2026 and 2028. Detailed combat carrier designing and production planning began in 2025 when the purchase agreement was formally signed. Fighting vehicles will be manufactured in collaboration with Latvian industry and its players.
