Replacement of medium-class helicopters

Project is structured in a way that will allow NAF to gradually replace its medium-class Mi-17 helicopters and buy four new UH-60M Black Hawk units. The implementation timeframe is from 2018 and 2027.

In addition to the purchase of helicopters and the necessary equipment, spare parts, and repair equipment, the project provides for the creation of the necessary infrastructure for helicopter storage, maintenance, and repairs, as well as the procurement of material and technical resources for setting up repair workshops and warehouses. Construction of the hangar, which will meet the infrastructure requirements for helicopter operations, began in the summer of 2025. According to the construction schedule, the building is scheduled to be put into operation in February 2027.

To ensure the full utilization of the new aircraft platforms, an important part of the project is the training and recertification of personnel (pilots and technicians). Training in the use of specific equipment, as well as maintaining acquired qualifications, is an ongoing process throughout the project’s implementation. In the fall of 2025, with funding support from a U.S. program, a helicopter flight training simulator classroom was opened at the National Armed Forces Air Force Base, providing capabilities for pilot training and qualification maintenance.

NAF already have three UH-60M Black Hawk units and the fourth helicopter will be delivered in 2026 according to plans.
