The Minister of Defence will participate in the NATO Summit in Ankara
From July 7 to 9, Minister of Defence Raivis Melnis will visit Ankara, Turkey, on an official visit to participate in the NATO Summit alongside President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže, and other representatives of the Latvian delegation to represent Latvia's interests.
At the NATO Summit, the main item on the North Atlantic Council's agenda will focus on increasing defence investments within the Alliance.
The Summit will also address the development of military capabilities and the strengthening of defence industry capacity. Emphasis will be placed on continued military support for Ukraine to ensure that Allied assistance remains sustainable. Concurrently, during the official visit, the Minister of Defence will attend the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum.
Given that russia will continue to be regarded as the most direct and serious threat to European and Euro-Atlantic security, the Summit will attach particular importance to strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence capabilities, especially on the eastern flank.
The NATO Summit in Ankara will be attended by leaders of the Alliance and partner countries, and it will be chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
