NATO Deputy Secretary General to visit Latvia
On Thursday, 1 February, the NATO Deputy Secretary General, the Honourable Ms. Rose Gottemoeller is coming to Latvia for a two-day official visit.
On 1 February, Ms. Gottemoeller will visit Ādaži military base and meet with troops of the Canadian-led NATO battlegroup.
On 2 February, the NATO Deputy Secretary General will meet with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Latvia Mr. Jānis Garisons to discuss the current regional defence and security situation and the NATO enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup in Latvia.
During the second day of her visit, Ms. Gottemoeller will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Edgars Rinkēvičs, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saeima Mr. Ojārs Kalniņš and Director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence Mr. Jānis Sārts.
On 2 February, from 11.00 – 12.15, the NATO Deputy Secretary General will deliver a public lecture at the Riga Graduate School of Law entitled “NATO’s adaptation: key to peace and security”. Ms. Gottemoeller took up her position as NATO Deputy Secretary General in October 2016, after serving nearly five years as the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security at the U.S. Department of State.
