Military capabilities

Military defence of Latvia is based on capabilities of National Armed Forces to ensure the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in case of military confilct.

The current priorities of national Armed Forces are developing Special Operations Unit, military engineering, air-defense, command and control, mechanisation, indirect fires and other significant capabilities. The middle and long term development goals are detailed in National Armed Forces defence plan and State Defence Conception.

In comprehensive defence, military defence is one of the key pillars, because it provides not only the military capabilities to defend our country but also gives opportunities for civil society to engage in state defence.
